Frequently asked questions

There are two brands here, how do they differ
The household water filter chapter carries products from two brands side by side. Pentair Water Solutions covers the Hydra Smart pair (PCFE54P12 · PWCE54P12) and the 8 x 44 inch pair (0844-363TC-AC · 0844-366TC-SOFT); both pages print the Pentair logo at the top. MEX covers the 1054 group, the 1044 group and the whole manual range. The 1252 group carries no brand logo in the catalogue, but the tank wears a MEX WATER PURIFIER sticker and the control valve comes from Pentair. Every unit is distributed and serviced by MEX.
Automatic or manual, which should I take
It comes down to who cleans the media. An automatic unit runs a programmed valve that backwashes the media itself, which the catalogue calls the regenerate cycle. There are 15, at THB 17,500 to 67,900.-. A manual unit needs you to turn the valve and clean the media yourself. There are 7, at THB 11,900 to 23,900.-. Tanks and media are the same in both; only the valve differs. If you are happy to do the upkeep, manual saves a clear amount. If you would rather not track a cleaning schedule, automatic is easier.
What tank size and what media suit my house
The catalogue pairs tank size with bathroom count directly. 8 x 44 inch for a small home with 1-2 bathrooms, 10 x 44 inch for a small home with 2, 10 x 54 inch for a mid-size home with 2-3, and 12 x 52 inch for a large home with 3-4 and for areas where the water is a problem. Hydra Smart, also 10 x 54 inch, is listed for a large home with 3-4 bathrooms. Pick the media by symptom: sediment takes Sand, chlorine smell takes Carbon, rust marks take Birm, hard water takes Resin. The catalogue advises testing your water before buying.
What does installing and upkeep involve
The catalogue has a TRIPS & TRICKS section. The site should be level, out of direct sunlight, and near a drain. The unit sits on the floor, no more than 20 feet or 6.1 metres from the drain. The end of the drain line must sit below the control valve, and should be tied down so it cannot move. The tank must always stand upright, never on its side or tipped over, or media gets into the valve. Write the installation date somewhere as a reminder, and replace the unit at most every 10 years.
